Egypt and The Nile | Post Journey Extension

You are invited to extend your journey to Jordan, home to several of the world’s most extraordinary ancient and natural sites, including the Lost City of Petra, the hallowed banks of the River Jordan, the vast desert, and the healing Dead Sea.
During our Jordanian extension we will explore the archeological wonders of Petra and Amman, whose roots stretch back to antiquity. We will also visit sites that are intrinsically woven into accounts throughout the Old Testament, including time at Bethany, Mount Nebo, and The Dead Sea.

Extension Day 1: Wednesday, February 12, 2025
Amman, Madaba, Mount Nebo, Bethany, The Dead Sea
Today we will fly from Cario to Amman on Royal Jordanian Air and we will begin exploring this magical area starting with a delicious lunch in Madaba. We continue to Mount Nebo and Bethany, and end in one of the most beautiful hotels on the Dead Sea.
Madaba, one of Jordan's most significant cities during the Byzantine era, is famous for its complex mosaics and is home to an amazing 6th-century cartographic map, which is the oldest depiction of the Holy Land. Mount Nebo is a high, windy outcrop in Jordan that overlooks the Dead Sea and much of the Holy Land. This was Moses’ last stop during the Exodus from Egypt. If conditions are right, you can see Jericho and beyond Jerusalem.
Bethany was rediscovered and verified as where John the Baptist lived and performed baptisms. Adding to the sacred significance, Jesus was baptized by John and Jesus began his ministry by enlisting his first disciples.
Flight Details: departing Cairo at 9:50 AM and arriving in Amman at 11:25 AM.

Extension Day 2: Thursday, February 13, 2025
Kings Way | Petra by Candlelight
Morning at leisure. We will depart the Marriott Dead Sea and travel along the King's HighWay to Petra, one of the great Wonders of the World.
For centuries, the King's Highway, which hugs the edge of the Great Rift Valley, was the principal route for traders traveling between Arabia and the Levant. It. We will then check into the beautiful Petra Marriott and have time to relax before our first exploration of Petra.
Petra by Candlelight: Our first visit to Petra is a magical way to see part of the rock city by candlelight and explore the old town. This incomparable experience starts by walking the entire Siq to the Treasury, lit with over 1,500 candles.

Extension Day 3: Friday, February 14, 2025
Petra, Desert Experience
This morning we will continue exploring Petra, a major trading center on the Silk Road connecting Asia, Mesopotamia, Africa, and Europe. Today it is a World Heritage Site that needs little introduction. The Nabataeans built the spectacular sandstone city of Petra in the 3rd century BC fitted with incredible palaces, temples, tombs, storerooms, and stables, all carved into grand soft stone cliffs. Lawrence visited Petra before and during the war and was captivated by the beauty of the rock-hewn Treasury, the Royal Tombs, the Monastery, Qsar al-Bint, and the Temple of the Winged Lion.
After lunch, we will explore the hidden treasures of ancient Little Petra on a 3-hour afternoon trip from Petra. Traveling by 4x4 off road vehicles, we’ll drive to Little Petra, once a trading outpost. We will head through the mysterious entrance of the canyon to see caves and buildings used by visiting traders and view other highlights, including an ancient cistern, Neolithic ruins, and a Crusader fort.

Extension Day 4: Saturday, February 15, 2025
Amman
This morning we will depart Petra and travel to Amman. Upon arrival in Amman, we will have lunch and then visit the Roman Theater, the Citadel, and the Jordan Museum, which encompasses 7000 years of history, including the famous Dead Sea Scrolls and Copper Scroll.
This evening is free for you to enjoy one of Amman's many outstanding restaurants. Our Guests Services Team will send you a list of restaurants and connect each guest with the Ritz Carlton concierge for reservations and recommendations.
